This pie gets the first ‘star’. We’d stopped in the general store and cafe of the tiniest of hamlets – Wood Wood – between Swan Hill and Robinvale. There’d been chalkboard signs advertising ‘homemade pies and freshly ground coffee’ along the roadside. We stopped to refuel and I ate this beef and onion masterpiece – light papery pastry, crunchy on the bite with a rich filling of succulent meat and wine infused gravey. It was streets ahead of the other contenders, so far, from Moss Vale and Yackandandah.
I am upset Yackandandah has fallen to second place in the pie stakes! NYC is like a absolute furnace!
