This interesting town was described to us as being like Australia’s version of Palm Springs which is apt as it was developed and laid out by the Chaffey brothers. They were from Canada and in California in the 1880’s developed a successful method of desert irrigation. They were invited to do the same in Australia by the then Minister of Victoria, Alfred Deakin.
The gridded town centre, wide palm tree avenues and interesting 1930’s architecture made this a good place for us to stop and have a break from camping.
We spent a Friday night enjoying drinks and dinner in the bustle of the town reminding us of our London home.
